Breeding A Rascal OffSpring ?

ARRANGEMENTS FOR BREEDING TO "Rascal"

SM929642/01 AKC USA and 1058733 CKC Canada
OFA LR52223G24M - good; CERF LR 8223/97-65; (redone Fall 2003)
elbows OFA LR-EL4160; Thyroid normal
Birthdate: August 1, 1991

 Approved Females Only

Please confirm  costs at the time your female comes into season.

Natural breedings are still being done and are expected to be continued for several years since Rascal is in excellent physical condition although retired.  Sperm activity and quality is checked regularly. However, due to airline reluctance to ship as well as weather restrictions, frozen is recommended at this time if you are not able to drive in with your female.

APPROVED FEMALES: No females without OFA approved hips and eyes approved by a board certified veterinary ophthalmologist will be bred. It is preferred that elbows are also cleared.  No preliminary level OFA will be accepted.  Additional clearance criteria regarding your females will be provided to those interested in breeding. Please send an email.

PAYMENT: Payment of stud fee will occur when litter is born.  Unless other arrangements are made the fee should be sent between the time the pups are born and three weeks of age. This will provide time for registration to be processed before the pups leave.  Fees adjusted for less than five pups --  1/5 of stud fee for each pup.

AIRPORTS: Since there has been such great increases in both prices and restrictions for flying, it is recommended that you use frozen or drive in for the breeding.
January though early April -      Tallahassee Florida or Valdosta Georgia
May through October   -      Madison Appleton or Green Bay Wisconsin

BREEDING ARRANGEMENTS:   It is advisable to check with your DVM for optimal times to breed your female if you have not bred her before. There are several tests that can determine optimal times for breeding.  There will be a maximum of two attempts for ties.

FROZEN: Frozen is now available.  Due to the cost and time involved in processing and storing, there is a $175 fee charged ahead that is non-refundable and not applied to the stud fee.  Additionally there are charges for preparing at the storage facility and shipping it to you.  You will be given the storage location's phone and they will give you the shipping cost.  The shipping and preparation is paid by you directly to the facility.  Your local DVM will also charge for surgery to implant.

Frozen is only released when there is a receiving DVM that is experienced and has had prior success in surgically implanting frozen   Simply thawing and inserting such as typically done with fresh chilled is not sufficient.

The first four attempts at frozen breedings have resulted in 11, 13, 7, and 9 pups.

FRESH CHILLED: In general it is too difficult to arrange for and ship fresh chilled. Timing is too critical as well as other problems.

LOCAL COSTS  If the female is shipped, there is a fee for pickup and return to airport and a daily cost for boarding in addition to the stud fee. There are no local  fees if owner brings female and cares for her.

WHAT TO DO: Please email at rascal@windstormretrievers.com to discuss specifics.   If a breeding is approved, then notification should take place the first day of the heat cycle.  Look through the rest of this site first to find out more information about Rascal Many questions might be answered by browsing the site.
